North MS (Hardin Co.)

North Middle School officially achieved KY Green and Healthy School status in 2010!  Fifteen seventh and eighth grade students from North Middle School created a team called the G-Force team.  The G-Force team began as a class and continued throughout the school year as an after school club.  The students participated in a variety of tasks in order to achieve KGHS status for their school in a single year.  Each task required the students to complete one of nine inventories about their school.  These inventories required students to interview a large number of school personnel, to contact local community resources, and to research areas of need in their school.   Upon completion of the inventories, the students created an improvement project that involved improving an area of need related to the inventory while also maximizing the inclusion of students, faculty, and other school community members.   Once the project was completed the students completed a detailed reflection about the success of their project.  The G-Force team completed all nine inventories presented by the Kentucky Green and Healthy Schools Program.

On Thursday, May 13, 2010, the G-Force team travelled to Frankfort, KY to receive their KGHS awards.  They were the only team awarded this designation at the awards summit that year.  They proudly returned with a certificate, a plaques, a banner for the gym, and flag to fly proudly outside of the school.  The students were also recognized by the Hardin County Board of Education on Thursday, May 20th.
